Roberto Luongo to Start for Vancouver Canucks in Game 5 against Boston Bruins –NHL Finals Update
Despite all the speculations about Roberto Luongo not starting in the fifth match between Vancouver Canucks and Boston Bruins on Friday, Vancouver’s head coach, Alain Vigneault, has given him the nod to remain in net when the series returns to the Rogers Arena.
"Roberto is the guy", Vigneault said on Thursday as they arrived back in their hometown from Boston. "He's my guy, and he's playing. It's that simple".
Vancouver had it tough in the two games against Bruins in Boston as they lost by an embarrassing 8-1 and 4-0 in Game 3 and 4 respectively.
Luongo looked to have chocked once again like he did in the previous series against Chicago Blackhawks in the quarterfinals.
It was certainly a depressing situation for not only the Canadian fans but for the Vancouver team as well, but they still have not lost hope.
"I think if you ask anybody on our crew, we're not happy with the way we played last two games, so, we're all pretty upset with ourselves and our performances", Luongo said. "At the end of the day, we're two wins away from reaching the ultimate goal, so I don't think it's a time for us to be putting our heads down or to not have any confidence”.
It seemed like Luongo had been sidelined after Game 4 when he was ejected in the third period after Bruins scored its fourth consecutive goal.
Vancouver’s backup goalie, Cory Schneider, took his place for the remaining 15 minutes and blocked the next nine shots on goal which gave the impression that he would be performing in the next matchup, considering Luongo’s performance.
Everyone remembers that Luongo came back in Game 7 during the quarterfinal series against Chicago Blackhawks and he is still capable of doing it which makes him legendary in his own way.
Only time will tell if Luongo is up to the task when Game 5 kicks off at the Rogers Arena in Vancouver, British Columbia, on Friday, June 10th, against the Eastern Conference leaders, Boston Bruins, and Western Conference champs, Vancouver Canucks.
