Roberto Luongo to remain in the net for Vancouver Canucks against Boston Bruins in Game 7 –NHL Update
Vancouver is back in the same position it was in after Game 4 when its goalie, Roberto Luongo, let in four straight goals for a disappointing 4-0 loss against Boston Bruins.
Luongo fell short yet again on Monday in Game 6 of the 2011 National Hockey League (NHL) Stanley Cup Finals’ series as Bruins defeated Canucks by 5-2 to level up the series.
Canucks’ coach, Alain Vigneault, has once again backed Luongo to remain as Vancouver’s starter in the final game of the series.
"He knows he's going back in the net", Vancouver’s coach, Vigneault, said of Luongo starting as the goaltender. "He's going to be real good".
People who are familiar with Vigneault know that he makes his decisions and sticks with them and most of the time, they really pay off.
Luongo was replaced by Vancouver’s backup goalie, Cory Schneider, during the third period in Game 4 as Boston scored its fourth consecutive goal.
He was again ejected out of Game 6, but this time in the first period after three straight Boston goals.
Schneider did not play as well as he did previously and let two go through him during the remaining part of the game.
"They came out flying obviously and got some goals and I obviously didn't make enough key saves to weather the storm early", Luongo said about Game 6.
Roberto Luongo along with Tim Thomas, Boston Bruins’ goalie, are well known to be two of the best goalies when they are playing at home which puts Vancouver at a huge advantage as the series will return to the Rogers Arena on Wednesday, June 15th,
for the final game.
Home-ice advantage has been crucial in this series as no team has been able to win a game away from home in the whole series till now.
Looking at this point of view, it is safe to say that in any case, Vancouver will easily have the upper hand in Game 7 and it is seen as most likely that Canucks will finally take home the cup for the first time in 40 years.
Game 7 of the thrilling Stanley Cup Finals will begin on Wednesday in Vancouver’s Rogers Arena.
