Manchester City played host to Napoli in the Champions League last night, in what was City’s first ever game in the European competition.
City kicked things off rather well against the Italians and looked to be the more threatening side in the game. However, despite all of the team’s efforts, they just couldn’t break the deadlock in the first half.
Following the restart, City were looking to attack http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Edinson-Cavani-c11955 finding the back of the net.
That goal seemed to take a lot out of the Citizens, but http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Aleksandar-Kolarov-c4475 was amongst the players who didn’t give up hope in the game. The full back went on to take a free kick soon after the Napoli goal and bent in a brilliant delivery which found the back of the net.
As a result, he helped City salvage a point from the game and from their first ever game in the biggest club competition in Europe.
Following the game, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Mancini-c23323 was asked if his team was a little nervous in the game, since it seemed like they were based on the way they played.
In response to that question, Mancini simply said:  “Maybe, but this is this is normal.”
He then went on to add, that it was the first time that City were playing in the Champions League after waiting for numerous years and that had to be one of the reasons for his side being nervous.
“After many years, we play the first game in the Champions League, maybe also some players were longing to win the game because we played one touch too many in the first-half, when we had a chance, one touch more.”
“I think that we were so nervous, because the first-half we played very well, in the second-half we went too long because every player wants to score a goal. We left too much space in the counter attack.”
Nonetheless, instead of being upset with the draw, the manager went on to admit that he was more than happy with his side picking up one point against such a strong opposition.
The manager then went on to show strong signs of confidence, as he admitted that he was now looking towards next week’s clash against Bayern Munich and that his side would pick up all three points against their German opponents.
