How quickly time flies in the Premier League. It was a year ago that Manchester City’s new owners gave Roberto Mancini the reigns of the club. The City manager celebrated his first anniversary with the club in style, defeating Newcastle 3-1 at St. James
Park.
The fantastic result marks the end of a landmark year for Roberto http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Mancini-c23323’s Manchester City side. The Italian has led his team through a rough transitional period, transforming the team from the new rich kids on the block to genuine title contenders. Manchester
City’s win over Newcastle means that they remain in second place, just 2 points behind current leaders Manchester United.
Roberto Mancini arrived at the club in December last year to replace the struggling Mark Hughes. Fast forward a year and the Citizens are in a great position to fight for their first Barclays Premier League title in history. Following their win over Newcastle,
Mancini reflected on his year in charge, saying, “I like Boxing Day. Last year, we won; this year, we won. I am happy with this first year, but it is my opinion that we need to improve again, we need to work. Only if we do that can we arrive at the top and
win something at the end of the season.” When asked to sum up his first year at Manchester City, Mancini called it an “incredible experience.”
The City manager has not had an easy time at Eastlands. Since the new owners started to pour seemingly unlimited funds into the club, things have changed drastically.
Long-time City supporters have seen their club transform beyond recognition. World-class players with World-class egos have arrived at the club, for fees which City fans could not even have dreamt of two years ago.
Mancini has had to transform a group of individuals into a team in a very short time span. He also had the recent Tevez transfer saga to deal with, something he might consider his greatest victory so far. Things are definitely looking up for the City manager
as he leads his team into the new year.
Just maybe, this might be the season City take their place as the new power in English football.
