Roberto Mancini claims that Manchester City deserves a UEFA Champions League spot
Manchester City manager, Roberto Mancini, has gone on to state that his team deserves a spot in the UEFA Champions League in light of their consistent performances throughout the 2010/2011 season.
The manager made these comments following his team’s win over West Ham United. City defeated West Ham by two goals to one and as a result, they go on to cement their fourth spot in the league.
At the moment, the team is being trailed by Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur, both, seven points behind City and seem to be in no place to catch up with them.
Should City finish at the fourth position, it would be a drastic downfall from what everyone had assumed the team to accomplish, initially in the season.
It was previously believed that the Citizens would mount a title challenge to United this term. However, a series of defeats saw the team slip-up from being in a poll position but it still looks poised to make it to the Champions League next year.
When talking about his team’s prospects and their participation in the Champions League, Mancini said, “Everything is in our hands, we’ve been between first and fourth position all season. After what we've done, we deserve to be in the Champions League”.
“We are not under pressure. We know we have a big chance in this moment. The Champions League was our target at the start of the season and we are in a good position”.
“We're also in the FA cup final so we've done a good job.”
Currently Mancini is looking to get a maximum number of points from City’s remaining fixtures to prove to everyone what his team is capable of.
The manager went on to add, “We will relax after http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/May-22-c39884. We must get the maximum points we can do. We have four games left and so do Tottenham”.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Mancini-c23323 finally concluded by talking about his side’s upcoming game, stating, “The next game [against Spurs] will be very hard for us but it's important to get a positive result”.
The game between City and Tottenham was initially much hyped about since it seemed to be the decisive for the fourth spot in the Premier League.
However with City putting in a number of good performances and Tottenham doing the opposite, this game is now nothing more than a regular game for City while it has become a must win for Tottenham.
Spurs are currently at the sixth position in the league and are trailing http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 on goal difference.
Nonetheless, City have officially shown that they are now ready to roll with the big dogs in Europe and if Mancini can manage to get his team to work as a unit, he might just be able to make history at the club.
He might be able to do so before the season comes to a close if he wins the FA Cup final against Stoke City.
