Roberto Mancini decides to have a word with want-away Carlos Tevez
Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini is planning to hold talks with want-away striker Carlos Tevez.
Earlier this week, the club officially confirmed that they had received a transfer request by the striker, which was later turned down.
The Italian manager has said that he intends to calm the situation when he meets the Argentinean on Friday.
He said, “I will speak with him on Friday. I am disappointed because we are in a good moment and in a good position in the table and our focus must be on this. Carlos has three-and-a-half years left on his contract. We have
important games coming up against Juventus and against Everton on Monday and lots of important games this month.”
City are currently 3rd in the table, level on points with Arsenal and just 2 spots behind league leaders Manchester United.
Roberto was present in Turin to prepare his side’s UEFA Europa League clash on Thursday night against Juventus FC.
The former FC Internazionale boss has rested Tevez and Mario Balotelli for the European fixture and revealed that the attacking duo did not make the trip to Italy because of the crucial upcoming fixtures in the English Premier
League.
It was rumoured that Balotelli was not taken to Italy because the manager feared that the 20-year-old striker could be the target of racist chants by the Juve crowd.
However, Roberto denied such speculations and stated that Mario had not been selected because he wanted him to have a break before Monday’s league match against Everton FC.
The 46-year-old tactician was also hopeful of topping Group A in the Europa League. The Citizens are currently leading the standings with 10 points and a win against The Old Lady will confirm their progress into the knockout round
as group winners.
He said, “It is important to win this game because we want to top the group. We prefer not to meet the teams who come from the Champions League. It is also important for the players because we have a lot of matches coming up
and we will need everyone.”
Meanwhile, City are also reported to line up a big-money offer to Liverpool’s Fernando Torres. The Spanish ace is being considered as a viable replacement for Tevez, if the South American decides to move away from the Eastlands.
