Following Manchester City’s exit from the FA Cup and the Carling Cup in January, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Mancini-c23323 hopes his side can pick up the pace from here on.
City haven’t had the best of starts in 2012, as they went on to lose to Manchester United and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809, which saw them crash out of the FA Cup and Carling Cup competitions. As a result, the team is now left fighting for just two trophies.
With those two trophies being the Premier League and the Europa League, it seems like City might just have their work cut out for them.
Instead of blaming his team’s poor performance, the manager feels that the number of suspensions and injuries that his team have seen, is what has contributed to this poor form that City have shown lately.
Mancini is quoted to have said: “I think we were very unlucky in the last 40 days, very, very unlucky with some situations on the pitch”
“We were disappointed because we wanted to go to the final of the Carling Cup and we wanted to go through in the FA Cup.
“But it was a difficult situation against United because we played nearly 90 minutes with 10 players. In the second game against Liverpool, we tried everything and scored two goals at Anfield.”
Despite City falling out of the Carling Cup and the FA Cup, the team is still in poll position to win the Premier League.
City are sitting on top of the Premier League table with a five point lead over Manchester United. At the same time, the Europa League isn’t really overflowing with the best teams at the moment and apart from Manchester United, all the other teams in the
competition seem to be pretty beatable.
With most of City’s players set to return in the coming few weeks, it is safe to say that the team is now going to pick up their form and start playing the way they did at the start of the season.
Once that does happen, it is going to be close to impossible to stop City from causing havoc, every time they step onto the pitch.
