Manchester City manager http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Daniel-Sturridge-c10076 leave the club in 2009 for the London side.
Sturridge managed to break into the first team at Manchester City in 2006 but lack of first team opportunity left the player wanting a move away. After he failed to agree to terms three years later in 2009, Sturridge was allowed to leave for Chelsea for
an estimated fee of 3.5 million pounds.
Mancini took charge of the club a few months later and recently admitted he was disappointed with the previous manager’s decision to let Sturridge go. He felt the player should have been retained, having shown just how brilliant he is at Chelsea recently.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Mancini-c23323 said in an interview:
“I asked him last year when he played for Bolton why he left Manchester City and he said he didn't know.
I know Sturridge well, I have watched him many times. Given the chance I think I would have liked to have kept him, but now he is at http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 we can do nothing. I know for sure he was one of the best young players that was here.”
Since joining Chelsea in 2009, Sturridge was sent out on loan to Bolton Wanderers for half a season last season and did incredibly well with the Trotters. The 22-year old managed to score an incredible eight goals in 12 appearances in the Premier League.
He then returned to Stamford Bridge at the beginning of this season and since then has been rewarded by manager Andre Villas-Boas with first team opportunities. That has even helped him secure a place for the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 national team.
Mancini felt that City had not done well to let Sturridge leave, especially for such a small amount. He revealed it had been quite obvious that Sturridge would develop into a fantastic player and therefore should have been kept at the club.
He revealed:
“It was not difficult to see that Sturridge was going to be a good player.
It was strange because he started out in Manchester and someone let him out of the club for nothing.”
