Roberto Mancini revels that Manchester City were looking to land http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Daniele-De-Rossi-c10112
Manchester City manager, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Roberto-c31294 Mancini has gone on to reveal that City were looking to land both Fernando Gago from Real Madrid and Daniele De Rossi from Roma. However, with all the teams involved failing to reach an agreement, neither player ended up
making a move to City. However, Gago ended up joining De Rossi at http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Roma-c31603 on a season long loan instead.
When talking about the two players and City’s ambition to sign them, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Mancini-c23323 is quoted to have said: "Gago is a player who we liked a lot. In the end we couldn't spend any more money due to the financial fair play rules”

"But De Rossi is one of the best midfielders in the world. I have always thought that.

"But he is Roman and a Roma fan so I don't believe he will ever leave them."
Due to the financial fair play rule, City then went on to bring in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Owen-Hargreaves-c28918 instead. Who not only came in for free, but helped the team increase the number of English players in the squad.
Many are considering this move by City to be a ridiculous one, while others are considering it to be a rather carefully thought out move.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Samir-Nasri-c32360, it would have been impossible for them to bring in any more big name players, which is why they opted to make a move on Hargreaves, who was without a club and more than willing to join any
team.
"For a few weeks we have understood, from a business perspective, that after signing Samir Nasri, there wasn't going to be a big name coming in," Platt said.
When talking about the fact if a move for Hargreaves was a gamble or not, Platt went on to add:
"I think gamble is too strong a word. When you put all the things into the mix it's a calculated risk, and one we feel is well worth taking."
Hargreaves, who is a former Bayern Munich and Manchester United midfielder, seems to have all the characteristics that a team would want from their midfielder. He can make good tackles, pass the ball and construct some brilliant moves. However, his constant
battles with injuries have made him less desirable over the years and also proved to be the reason from him being dropped by United.
Nonetheless, should he managed to remain fit, then this gamble made by City could reap them some pretty decent rewards.
