Robertson aiming to break Joe Johnson’s record by winning the 2011 World Championship
Neil Robertson is aiming to break Joe Johnson’s record by becoming the first player ever to defend his world title. Robertson, who last year became the first Australian ever to be crowned at the Crucible Theatre, says he is confident enough to go all the
way.
The likes of six-time world champion, Steve Davis, seven-time world champion, Stephen Hendry and three-time world champion, Ronnie O’Sullivan all have been unable to defend their title for second consecutive year. However, the Thunder from the Down Under,
Neil Robertson, thinks he has the potential to do so.
Johnson, who was the last man from Yorkshire to win a World Championship, was the only player who made it to the finals for the second time in a row. Johnson lifted the world title back in 1986, and also reached the final in the 1987 World Championship before
losing out to the Ginger Magician, Steve Davis.
The world number five, Robertson, told the media that no player has been able to defend his world championship title as of yet, so there will be no pressure on him and therefore, he is in a position to break the phenomenon commonly known as the ‘Crucible
Cruse’.
Robertson, who is set to meet the Bristolian ace, Judd Trump in a best-of-nineteen first round match of this year’s World Championship, also told the media now that  Trump has won his first major ranking event in China people would expect him to produce
a good game. He said this will only relieve pressure of his head.
Joe Johnson, who now gives coaching to many young players, also thinks that the Australian is capable of creating history. Johnson, who is also a fan of Robertson’s game, said he plays a pretty aggressive game and has a lot of talent.
Both players are highly talented and like to play an attacking game. However, let us see if the Australian is able to see off the rising star, Judd Trump.
