Robin Andreasson earns Men’s 200m freestyle gold: Day two – 2012 Swedish Grand Prix, Uppsala
Robin Andreasson served notice of his talent by earning gold medal of the Men’s 200m freestyle on day two of the 2012 Swedish Grand Prix in Uppsala, Sweden on Sunday, February 5.
The 23-year-old Andreasson showered his expertise in the four-lap freestyle swim and gave no chance to his fellow swimmers to fight back. With his epic performance in the mediocre-distance freestyle event, he remained in the spotlight for gold medal throughout the race.
He faced strong competition from Jesper Jonsson in the first lap, but with his stunning efforts, Andreasson kept on extending his lead for gold medal in the remaining laps of the race.
He ended his first lap of the race in a time of 26.60 seconds while Jonsson remained 0.24 seconds slower and covered his initial 50 metres of the race with the timing of 26.84 seconds.
The arena witnessed a nerve-wrecking performance of Andreasson in the second lap, where he completed his initial 100 metres of the race with an effort of 55.22 seconds. With his impressive swim, he gained a lead of almost one second over Jonsson, who completed his first round with timing of 56.01 seconds.
The third lap saw exhausting struggle of Andreasson, who went full rampant and clocked a time of 1 minute and 24.20 seconds. In contrast, Jonsson stayed almost 1.50 seconds behind and ended similar distance by posting a time of 1 minute and 25.73 seconds.
With his persistent efforts, Andreasson sustained his fastest spot in the final lap and clinched gold medal by producing a time of 1 minute and 52.51 seconds. Similarly, Jonsson was 2.80 seconds away from the champion and secured second position of the event by reporting a time of 1 minute and 55.31 seconds.
The third spot of the race was obtained by Damien Cattin-Vidal, who was just two strokes behind his former finisher and clocked an effort of 1 minute and 55.90 seconds.
The spectators acknowledged exhausting efforts of all position holders in the 200m freestyle event whereas the winners were invited on the victory stand for their undisputed effort after the completion of session.
