Robin Bastiman working hard as ever for more Group-1 success
The Bastiman family has been serving horseracing for more than 50 years now and they have achieved a lot over these years. This has become their family business and they are determined to continue contributing to the sport.
One of the members of this family is Robin Bastiman, who has been serving as a trainer for the past many years. He has done a very good job until now and has become the elite member of the Group-1 winning trainers.
Robin won a couple of races at the highest level and both victories came with Borderlescott, who is a seasoned runner. He has represented his team in over 60 races, winning 14 of them whereas finished as a runner up on 17 occasions. Moreover, he has also
secured the third spot on eight times, which shows that he is a consistent performer.
However, the most important victories of the 10-year-old gelding were in the Nunthorpe Stakes, which he won in 2008 and 2009 respectively. He is currently looked after by Robin’s daughter Rebecca.
Although, the veteran runner is nearing an end to his career, yet he has the ability to surprise his opponents at this age. He has been inconsistent during the ongoing season, but performed brilliantly recently in September, which gave him his first win
in more than two years.
Robin was delighted to see Borderlescott on top once again and commented, “It's great to see him back, the ground came right for him. It was a mistake to run him in Ireland because he came back stiff. He wasn't right at Thirsk next time and the ground came
up too loose on top for him in the Stewards' Cup, and he's probably not as good over six furlongs anyway.”
Moreover, Robin has also trained Green Howard, who is young and highly talented. He has been winning quite a lot of events and will definitely go onto represent his team in major races.
The four-year-old gelding has maintained a very good strike rate and he is looked after really well by his trainer. He will certainly be competitive at the highest level and might give Robin another chance in the Group-1 contests.
