Robin Dutt confident of leading Leverkusen into the Champions League next round - UCL News
Despite getting beaten by the Spanish outfit http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Valencia-c40863 on Tuesday, Bayer Leverkusen manager Robin Dutt is still hopeful of making it to the next round of the UEFA Champions League. He also congratulated his Spanish opponents on registering their first win
of the competition.
Bayer travelled away to Spain where they locked horns with Valencia on Tuesday, November 1. The Orange emerged comfortable 3-1 winners on the night, courtesy goals, from Jonas, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Adil-Rami-c3639. Stefan KieBling scored a solitary goal for the
visitors.
Valencia made a rocking start to the game with a goal inside the first 11 seconds. Bernd Leno kicked the ball straight into http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Jonas-c18967’ path, who, without wasting any time, smacked the ball past Leno to give his side a 1-0 advantage.
KieBling levelled the honours in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Spain-c3011 with a 31st minute strike, causing terrors in opposition’s rank. Both teams went into the tunnel with scores level at 1-1.
Soldado gave an early advantage to the hosts in the second half with his 65th minute goal and soon it was stretched to 3-1 with a 74th minute strike from Rami. Since then, the visitors were unable to gain any sort of momentum and ended
up losing by a 3-1 margin.
This loss has opened qualification doors on Valencia as the Spaniards find themselves one point short of the Werkself. Both teams are left with two games to play and would want to register maximum points in order to prove their supremacy.
While talking to media after the game, the tactician further added, "I obviously can't be happy about the result especially after conceding a goal after 10 seconds. That could have been avoided by clearing the ball instead of passing it back. From there,
the team had a positive reaction and were able to find a way back into the tie."
He concluded by saying, "We expected the fans in the Mestalla to turn on their team if they didn't perform up to par as I said in the pre-match press conference, but we couldn't take advantage of this situation."
Bayer are currently second in their Champions League Group E with six points from four games, two points adrift of the current leaders, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786.
