He insisted that it was a game of two halves in which the hosts were better first and his side dominated the proceedings after the interval. He added that there were ample opportunities for both sides to score but defending was brilliant for most part of the game.
“It was a really good match and both teams were absolutely on a par. In the second half we were winning the challenges and managed to generate a lot of pressure, but Bremen came back. All in all it was a fair result,” the former SC Freiburg boss was quoted as saying in an interview.
On the other hand, Werder Bremen manager Thomas Schaaf also expressed his satisfaction on the result and admitted that the crowd witnessed some attacking and exciting football. He rued missed chances from his side throughout the course of 90 minutes but complimented the opposition’s defence for being so strong and letting only one goal in.
“I'm very satisfied. It was a great game played at a peculiar pace. It had everything that makes football exciting, interesting and loveable, which is a great compliment to my team,” he concluded.
