Robin Dutt to be the Bayer Leverkusen manager next season – Bundesliga news
It has been confirmed that Robin Dutt has been appointed as the new man who will be in charge of Bayer Leverkusen in the 2011-12 season.
The ambitious Bundesliga giants have now confirmed on the club’s official website that the German, who is currently the manager of Freiburg, will take the position as Bayer’s manager after the current 2010-11 season ends.
Bayer Leverkusen have been in the market for a new manager for some weeks after it was confirmed that current manager Jupp Heynckes was not looking to extend his contract at the club.
While talking to the media, former German national team manager and Leverkusen sporting director Rudi Voller said, “Robin Dutt was always our first option to replace Heynckes if he decided to leave, regardless of whether he'd leave this summer or in 2012.”
Dutt started his coaching career with Ditzingen and then took charge of Stuttgarter Kickers before he was offered a managerial position at Freiburg in 2007. At that time, the club was in the second tier of Bundesliga. However, it all changed as he guided
the club to promotion in 2009 and since then, he has converted the side into a stable Bundesliga side that many have touted to become a European candidate in a few years time.
Dutt said that he is looking forward to the new challenge in the summer and that he would build up on the success of Jupp Heynckes.
“I'm really looking forward to the challenge of taking over at Leverkusen and building on Jupp Heynckes' good work. I share the club's footballing philosophy and am pleased with this move,” Dutt said.
According to many reports, reason of Jupp Heynckes not signing a contract extension is largely due to his keenness to move to Bayern Munich if he is contacted. The current Bundesliga champions are also understood to be looking for a new manager after it
was confirmed at the start of March 2011 that current manager Louis van Gaal would be leaving the club by the end of the season.
