Robin Farina and Max Korus win 2011 USA Elite Road National Championships
Now and Novartis Fo team’s Robin Farina won her first 2011 USA Elite Road National Championships, on Sunday June 26.
Farina took a total of 3 hours, 16 minutes and 34 seconds to cover the distance of 120 kilometres.
Andrea Dvorak of Colavita - Forno D'Asolo was the runner-up and Amanda Miller (Htc Highroad Womens Team) finished third.
After the end of race, Farina said, "I'm still in a little bit of shock but it's been pretty amazing so far, it’s been a rough week for our team with Christina Gokey-Smith breaking her arm in the criterium and Devon Gorry hurting her knee in the road race,
this was a good way to end the week of racing."
A group of three cyclists made their first breakaway, which included Alison Starnes (Peanut Butter & Co Twenty12), Jennifer Wheeler (Tibco-To the Top) and Kasey Clark (Primal-MapMyRide). All of them gained an advantage of three and half minute over the peloton.
The HTC-Highroad team maintained their pace in the front of the peloton. After 15 kilometres, HTC-Highroad team's Evie Stevens attacked the peloton and followed Miller. She increased her pace and followed the four riders, including Dvorak, Farina, Meredith
Miller (Tibco-To the Top) and Kathleen Billington (Danbury Audi).
In the final climb of the race, all of them gained a lead of 30 seconds over the peloton. Dvorak attacked and was followed by three cyclists. Farina took the advantage of a few seconds and crossed the finish-line ahead of other cyclists.
In Men's category, Bikereg.Com/Cannondale team’s Max Korus won the 2011 USA Elite Road National Championships in Fort Gordon on Sunday.
Korus took a total of 4 hours, 4 minutes and 8 seconds to cover the distance of 168 kilometres.
Korus told the media, “I felt good, I felt like there was nothing more I could have done. I’m thankful it turned out to be enough. He’s a great rider. I wasn’t sure I had enough to come around him.”
Jesse Moore of California Giant Cycling was the runner-up with the same timing of Max. Timothy Rugg of Battley Harley-Davidson/Xo Com was in the third spot with a difference of 8 seconds.
Austin Roach was also in the five-man group, but he failed to gain a lead and grabbed the fifth spot with a difference of 16 seconds.
The three cyclists form US Military Cycling team including Shawn Olin, Andrew Chocha and Daniel Cassidy were disqualified from the race.
