Robin Frijns hopes to learn from his F1 test – Formula 1 news
Robin Frijns, who has earned two tests at the Abu Dhabi Young Driver test at Yas Marina next month, thinks he can learn a lot from it.
Frijns had been confirmed by team Sauber for the test as he was still competing in the Formula Renault 3.5. Further, the Red Bull Racing team announced to offer a test to the highest placed driver in the Renault championship given that they have no contract
with rival Formula 1 teams. Since Frijns went on to win the title and not being related to other F1 teams, he automatically qualified for the test. The driver is pleased with his achievements.
“Every meter in a Formula 1 car counts,” Frijns told AUTOSPORT. “The first day with Sauber, then a day off, then the third day with Red Bull. I'm looking forward to it.”
The driver admits that the test will be a great learning experience especially with the leading team of Red Bull.
He said, “I can learn a lot from that. Red Bull have the best car in Formula 1 at the moment, and they're looking good for a third championship in a row. I think they're going to do it, and I'm thrilled that I'm going to get to drive the best car in Formula
1 this year.”
The driver confessed that it will not be easy for him to enter the world of Formula 1. The title had also not come easy to him. Frijns had to fight against Ferrari academy member Jules Bianchi and Mercedes test driver Sam Bird. Bianchi entered the finale
with a five points lead on Frijns, while Frijns had been penalised for a crash with his rival. The driver was still able to win.
Despite winning three championships in a row, Formula BMW Europe, Formula Renault Euro cup, and Formula Renault 3.5, he thinks it is going to be difficult. He says that Formula 1 is definitely his current objective and no matter how difficult, he is going
to keep working on making it into Formula 1.
Frijns has definitely got a better chance with two opportunities in the Driver test.
