Robin Gonansa beats Tzu Wei Wang in Men’s Singles first round at Chinese Taipei Open GP Gold
Robin Gonansa, an emerging player from Singapore, had to employ all of his reserves in Men’s Singles first round to register win over his local opponent Tzu Wei Wang at Yonex Chinese Taipei Open GP Gold 2012 on Wednesday, October 3, in Chinese Taipei.
The in-form Singaporean, who has been struggling to get a breakthrough at international stage, found himself in all sorts of trouble but managed a way out and won the battle in a tight fashion.
Gonansa could not live up to expectations in opening set but he found a good flow and secured the following games to end up the contest in rubber sets with a reasonable margin on score board.
Backed by the support of home fans, Tzu Wei showed his aggression in opening game but failed to maintain his speed and perfections in the following sets and lost the match in three games.
In the starting game, Gonansa played attacking badminton but failed to live up to expectations as he could not set up a comfortable lead until the one-minute break.
After the interval, both men remained consistent on court and it was Gonansa who was in lead by reaching at 17-15.
However, Gonansa lost his focus and conceded six points in a row and lost the set with a 17-21 score on the board.
It was an entirely different situation in the following game when Gonansa showed his brilliance and set up a staggering gap until the break.
After the mid-game interval, Gonansa continued showing his impressive craft and did not face any considerable trouble in finishing up the set with a crushing 21-10 score on the board.
In the decider, the in-form Singaporean shuttler continued his domination over his opponent and managed an inspiring lead until the end of first half.
The lofty Gonansa did not spare any chance for Tzu Wei to create any problem after the one-minute interval and ultimately finished off the battle with a one-sided margin of 21-13.
Gonansa emerged as the winner in this tough fight in rubber games with a 17-21, 21-10 and 21-13 score on the board.
