Robin Haase, Filippo Volandri proceed to the semi-finals – Bet-at-home Cup 2012
Robin Haase beats Wayne Odesnik 6-2, 6-4
World number 42, Robin Haase of the Netherlands, faced limited resistance in beating USA’S 148th ranked player, Wayne Odesnik, in straight sets 6-2, 6-4 in the quarter-finals of the Bet-at-home Cup in Kitzbuhel, Austria
on Thursday.
Haase and Odesnik did not drop their serve in the first four games, taking the score to 2-2. It was an all Haas show later on, as he grabbed four back-to-back, winning it 6-2.
The Dutch player hit a blow to Odesnik in the opening game of the second set and held his next serve to gain a 2-0 advantage. However, the American contestant broke back in the fourth to square off at 2-2. Haase struck again in
the seventh game and this time he made the most of it to triumph 6-4.
The Turnhout, Belgium resident bombarded a total of nine aces on his opponent and committed three double faults in the match. The 6ft 3in tall clinched most of the points on his first serves and second returns, securing 26 of the
32 and 16 of the 20 points on them respectively. The 25-year-old could not save one of the two break points he faced but converted four of the nine he received.
Haase is pitted against the fifth seeded Slovakian player, Martin Klizan, in the semi-finals. Klizan ousted Simone Bolelli of Italy in three sets 1-6, 7-5, 6-1 in the previous match.
Filippo Volandri defeats Rogerio Dutra Silva 6-4, 6-4
Italy’s Filippo Volandri reached the last four-stage for the second time in this year, after downing Rogerio Dutra Silva of Brazil in twin sets 6-4, 6-4 in just an hour and 23 minutes.
Volandri and Silva swapped a break of serve in the opening four games to level the score at 2-2. There was no strike by any of the two players in the following five, taking the score to 5-4 in favour of the Italian. Volandri raised
the level of his game at the right time, hitting a blow to the Brazilian and closing it 6-4.
The Italian contender made a far better start in the second set, grabbing opening three games to take a 3-0 lead. Silva was in no mood to go down without a fight, as he broke back in the seventh and held his subsequent serve to
draw level at 4-4. However, Volandri managed to win two games in a row afterwards to grab it 6-4.
Volandri will battle against the top seed, Philipp Kohlschreiber, in the semi-finals.
