Robin Haase/ Milos Raonic breeze into the semis of the Men’s Doubles - Gerry Weber Open 2011
Unseeded pair of Netherlands’ Robin Haase and Canada’s Milos Raonic trashed German wild card entrants, Dominik Meffert and Mischa Zverev, in straight sets at Gerry Weber Open, an opening sensation of the grass court season. They
registered a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Meffert and Zverev at their home soil to advance into the semi-finals on Thursday.
Haase and Raonic teamed up to display their awe-inspiring skills in the double at Halle. Raonic have reached quarters in singles event of this tournament as well and by his great co-ordination with the Dutchman, 20-year-old took
his team into the semi-finals.
The Dutch Canadian duo went berserk in the opening set at Gerry Weber Stadion. They unleashed thunderous forehands to reel off first five games in a row and dominated all over the court. Later, Haase and Raonic got distracted and
they lost next three game but they held their serve in the ninth game to clinch the set with a 6-3 win.
The Dutch Canadian tandem carried their winning ways into the second set and held their opening serve to level the scores at 1-1. They kept the flow throughout the set and smoothly bagged all their serves. Haase and Raonic saved
the only breakpoint faced and converted the only breakpoint opportunity to his advantage in the fifth game to seal the set by winning six games to four.
They produced a higher first serve share of 69 percent and registered an impressive 76 percent win on it. The pair also smacked nine aces and converted three out of five breakpoint opportunities to his advantage to help win easily.
They also saved three out of four breakpoints faced with amazing defensive skills.
Haase and Raonic bounced from a set down to win in a three set thriller against a German Dutch pair of Florian Mayer and Rogier Wassen in the opening round match to reach this spot.
Up next for the winning combination of Haase and Raonic are the Australian wild card entrants, Lleyton Hewitt and Peter Luczak, who stunned second seeded pair of American Eric Butorac and Jean-Julien Rojer to reach this spot. They
made an epic comeback from a set down to win by a 3-6, 7-5, 13-11 mouth watering match on Wednesday.
The German team of Christopher Kas and Philipp Kohlschreiber reached the last spot of the final four. They dumped Fin Serb duo of Jarkko Nieminen and Viktor Troicki in straight sets in front of their home crowd to reach to advance
in this ATP event. The pair upset fourth seeded Israelis, Jonathan Erlich and Andy Ram in straight sets in the opening round match.
