Robin Krasniqi finally gets to fight Nathan Cleverly for the title – Boxing News
A title match that was due between the number 4 contender Robin Krasniqi and WBO light heavyweight world champion Nathan Cleverly is now finally on the cards. Initially, the WBO refused to have the fight but thanks to promoter Frank Warren who played his
part and successfully resolved the situation. The match will now be held at the Royal Albert Hall on April 28.
On the occasion, Tony Bellew, Cleverly’s previous opponent who was looking for a rematch soon, said, “I'm the one coming off the loss, but I'm fighting a better opponent than him. Anyone in the game knows that a former European champion is a threat and McIntosh
is a good boxer because his credentials don't lie. Cleverly beat McIntosh three years ago but they were both novices then and they have both come on miles since then. I'm fighting the best version of McIntosh, he's got more experience now and he's travelled
away from home to win the title, stopping Thierry Karl in his backyard. He's got a lot of ambition and a lot left to offer, and I'm not in the game to knock over jobsworths.”
He further said that if he had defeated Cleverly then he would have taken on Tommy Karpency next. Appreciating Tommy, Bellew said that he has a lot of respect for him.
It should be noted here that the winner of the bout between Cleverly and Robin will take on the mandatory challenger Bernard Hopkins within the next 120 days. Hopkins is scheduled to fight Chad Dawson. If Hopkins is able to grab a victory over Dawson, he
will become the mandatory challenger to face Cleverly.
For now, Cleverly is preparing to face his opponent and put his title for the fourth time on the line. If Cleverly is able to defend his title yet again, then he definitely will impress critics, who assumed by his last fight that Cleverly is all about luck
and has no real fighting spirit. Bellew had given Cleverly tough competition which made others think that the champion will not be able to stand in front of a sturdy fighter.
