Robin Lopez excited about his future in New Orleans Hornets – NBA News
Robin Lopez is looking forward to a fresh start with the New Orleans Hornets, after he was traded to them by the Phoenix Suns in the offseason.
Lopez, a 7 foot defensive minded centre, says that he feels he will be able to adjust better under defensive minded Hornets coach Monty Williams, and is looking forward to the opportunity.
“With the exception of Phoenix, in college and high school I always played with low-scoring successful teams. That is something I can definitely get accustomed to here,” said Lopez Thursday morning while working out at the Hornets
training facility.
Lopez is currently recovering from an operation on his left knee that was performed earlier this month to repair a torn medial meniscus. He initially suffered the injury in the 2010-2011 season when his Phoenix Suns team mate
Jared Dudley fell down and rolled into him. His knee has been causing trouble ever since, and he finally decided to undergo surgery this summer.
Lopez was not able to make a great impact with the Suns after being picked with the number 15 pick in the 2008 NBA Draft. Last season was particularly bad for him, in which he averaged 5.4 points and 3.3 rebounds per game while
losing his starting position in the team.
"In a competitive league like this, (injuries) can kind of make or break a season for you. I don't want to make any excuses, obviously, because there are other contributing factors. I wasn't up to par. So being almost healthy right
now, or definitely being on that course, that's very exciting for me. Right now, I feel great,” said Lopez.
Lopez is anxious to join his new team and practice with them, but at the same time, he wants to give his knee ample time to recover, so that the problem does not reappear during the regular season, which is due to being on October
31st.
The big is excited about the prospect of teaming up with this year’s number 1 draft pick, Anthony Davis, in the Hornets front court. He feels that both him and Davis are defensive minded players and together, they can cause problems
for players particularly on the drive and in the low post.
Along with Davis, Lopez will be teaming up with Eric Gordon, Ryan Anderson and Al-Farouq Aminu, all rising stars in the league who have an opportunity to be part of something special in this new team, which was recently purchased
by new owner Tom Benson.
Lopez has a bright future ahead and a fabulous opportunity waiting. He only needs to make it count this time.
