Robin Middleton, Ross Smith prevail in Men’s Doubles event of 2013 Victorian International
Robin Middleton and Ross Smith claimed men’s Doubles crown of Li Ning Victorian International as they unseated Raymond Tam-Glenn Warfe from the top spot on Sunday, June 30, 2013.
This epic tussle was staged at the local badminton arena of Albert Park, Australia and it prolonged to 53 minutes. A huge crowd gathered to encourage both native pairs who wrapped this showdown with a nerve-racking result of 21-19, 19-21 and 21-17.
The twosome of Robin and Ross ruled the court in opening and ending segments of the showdown whereas Raymond and Glenn remained victorious in the second set of match.
In first set of match, Robin and Ross took a sluggish start as they spent time to read their rival’s game plan. At one stage, they were trailing behind on the points table but then few back-to-back productive rallies provided them the required momentum.
They did not break this flow and left their challengers behind with a respectable lead before the mid-game break. After one-minute interval, they faced bit difficulty in maintaining their upper hand but still they managed to wrap this segment of showdown
with a favourable score of 21-19.
The following game was a just a replay of previous one but the result was different this time. The lower ranked but spirited Australian duo Raymond Tam-Glenn Warfe performed beyond expectations and kept the contest alive.
Both Men’s Doubles experts joined hands and levelled the match score with a staggering knock. They started the beating immediately in the beginning and played with an authoritative approach all the way to final stage.
Although Raymond and Glenn blundered in latter part of the game, yet this could not stop them from winning this set with 21-19 margin.
With 1-1 match score position, both duos were subjected to a tough war of survival. They were just one step away from the top spot on victory stand.
Both pairs put all they had to claim this final match point but luck was on the side of Robin and Ross. They swept the table with a decent lead of four points in 21-17 total and earned the right to raise Men’s Doubles trophy.
