Robin Soderling vs. Ivan Dodig
Robin Soderling of Sweden knocked out Croatian Ivan Dodig in three straight sets 3-6, 6-2 and 6-4 in their second round match at the 2011 Sony Ericsson Open. The Swede took one hour and fifty nine minutes to get a foothold in the
third round of the tournament.

Dodig landed 75 per cent of first serves on target whereas the Swede only managed 38 per cent points though he managed to win 60 per cent on it. Dodig converted 75 per cent of break point opportunities and that was sufficient for
the Croat to trump Soderling in the first set.
Soderling bounced back in the second set and broke his opponent in the eighth game to clinch a 6-2 win. He delivered 68 per cent of first serves, winning 80 per cent of points from them. Whereas, his contender fired in 41 per cent
of first serves and converted 55 per cent of points from them. The Swede capitalized on his experience in the field and ended up with a 6-2 win.
With his success, it was not difficult for the Swede to get his foot in the door as he won the final set.
Both opponents played equally good in the final set, but Soderling’s experience helped him a lot in snatching victory from the fighting Croat.
The Swede opened the first serve, and played hard to make a go of it. He smashed in 68 per cent of the first serves and won 56 per cent of points on them whereas, Dodig converted a whopping 70 per cent of points out of his first
serve. The Swede converted 3 out 4 break point chances and finally sailed through to the next round where he will play Juan Martin Del Porto of Argentina.
David Ferrer vs. Igor Kunitsyn
Spain’s David Ferrer defeated Igor Kunitsyn when he outplayed him in two easy set 6-2, 6-1 at the 2011 Sony Ericsson open on Friday.
Banking on the huge difference in their rankings, it wasn’t much surprise for anyone when the Spaniard defeated his opponent taking not more than one hour and twenty minutes.
Ferrer’s dominion took a start when he landed 57 per cent of his first serves, converting 67 per cent of it into points. Kunitsyn, on the other hand, lagged far behind with a difference of 10 per cents and converted only 57 per
cent of his first serves.
The Russian Kunitsyn, saved 50 per cent of the break point opportunities and that still seemed insufficient to take a lead in first set. Dominating in the first set the Spaniard broke his opponent in the eighth game and clinched
a 6-2 win.
The Spaniard had an eminent start to the second set, as he compiled 100 per cent of the break point opportunities to have a dominating 6-1 lead in the second set. He got a hold of 75 per cent of first serves points in the game,
though he double faulted 2 times in the match. On the other hand, Kunitsyn only collected a meager 44 per cent points out of 45 per cent of his first serves.
The match he played went off with a bang as he grabbed a breadstick win. He now moves on ahead to play Somdev Devvarman of India in the third round.
