Robin Soderling is unsure on his chances of coming back to the tour – Tennis News
Former world number four, Robin Soderling of Sweden, has said that he would announce retirement from professional tennis if he is unable to make a comeback in 2013.
The Swede has not played in a single tournament for more than a year now. The last event Soderling took part in was his home event, SkiStar Swedish Open, in Bastad last year. He was diagnosed with mononucleosis after that and then
started the long lay-off from the tour.
Soderling shared in a recent interview that he is doing whatever he can to fasten up the recovery process but it is not completing. The Swede revealed that three weeks ago it looked like he would be ready to start playing event
in a short span of time but his condition got bad once again. The 6ft 4in tall player said that his health gets better and he finds himself in a condition to play regularly but then he falls sick again.
Talking to the reporters, Soderling stated, "I'm frustrated because I'm doing what I can. If you would have asked me before two-three weeks ago, I would have been really positive. Could I play basically every day, but then I catch
cold. Sometimes I go full half an hour, the next day it's too much. Hard to deal with it. Impotency is upsetting. I also consulted with sports psychologists, situation is irritating."
Soderling is already 28-year-old and if another year gets wasted like this, then it would be very difficult for him to make a successful return. He would have a better option to join the veteran circuit then, instead of trying
to rise back to top on the ATP Tour.
The Swede added, "The final decision on my career has yet to peak. If I get back in 2013, then I do not know ... I guess I just stayed veteran circuit. Already would probably be too heavy to get back."
Soderling rocked the world of tennis, when he stunned the King of Clay, Rafael Nadal, in the fourth round of the 2009 French Open. That has been Nadal’s only loss at the Roland Garros so far in his career. The Swede went on to
lose to one of the best tennis players of all time, Roger Federer, in the final. Soderling gained his revenge by upsetting the Swiss Maestro in the round of 16 at the same place next year.
