Robin Soderling vs Louk Sorenson – First Round Preview: US Open 2011
The fourth Grand Slam of the year, the U.S Open is due to start off on Monday, 29th August 2011 at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center with its 1stround matches.
As the qualifiers of the Grand Slam came to its end, Louk Sorenson wrote his name in the main draw list, however, fell short and into the hands of Robin Soderling. Previously, the two have never been head on against each other
making this their first head-to-head fixture.
Although the result is probably obvious, considering the fact that the Swede has been recovering from a wrist injury, it might as well end up the other way round. However, that remains an "if".
Bearing in mind that the 26-year-old Irish has been less successful in his career, there have been upsets every now and then. Other than that, Sorensen has been a satisfactory player. Ranked at world No. 618, the Irish has been
more comfortable on clay courts rather than on fast circuits.
However, his performance in the qualifiers has been exceptionally good. Making it up into the main draws, Sorenson surpassed all his qualifiers with straight set wins. Lately his best performance was also on hard circuit, at the
San Jose Challenger, when he reached the quarter-final round.
On the contrary, Soderling has been a mesmeriser in tennis. Described as the “brutal force” the Swede is well known for his powerful drive and a strong competitive game. Standing at 6’4”, the 27-year-old is capable of generating
serves up to 140 miles/h.
The Swede is well known for his wins on fast tracks. In combination to his double-handed backhand, his forehand is regarded as the deadliest in today’s game, however, his mental strength and lack of consistency is his biggest weakness
in the game.
The Swede has decided to jump back into action as he had been out due to a write injury that, also, lost him a position missing out from the Montreal Masters and Cincinnati.
The 27-year-old right hander is a strong contender for the U.S Open. Making his way to USA, the Swede formerly won at Bastad before he injured his wrist and had to pull out from the twin Masters at Cincinnati and Montreal.
Despite being out of practice and off courts for a while now, the world No.6, also the former world No.4, is a much more able player than his first round contender, Soderling is expected to enjoy a straight sets win over the 26-year-old
Irish.
