Robin Soderling vs Tomas Berdyc Soderling done Roger Federer to reach Berdyc
After defeating Nadal and Roger Federer Robin Soderling faces Tomas Berdych in the semi finals
Rodin Soderling’s foray into the French Open is looking bright. Back in 2009, Soderling gave Rafael Nadal a bitter defeat.
Nadal had never lost before in the French Open specifically in the singles match. His win over Nadal is considered as Soderling’s biggest victory in his career.
In the finals, Soderling was faced with Roger Federrer. Consequently, Federrer is considered by many as the greatest tennis athlete of his time.
The match back in 2009 was not even close. Federer posed a considerable advantage over Soderling. Federer earned his first French Open title when he won over Soderling in 2009.
This also made him a Grand Slam since he won the titles of the four major events in tennis: French Open, Australian Open, Wimbledon and U.S. Open.
It was a year later when Soderling got the chance for a rematch and on Tuesday June 1, 2010, he managed to turn the plates and earn the victory instead.
He defeated the world number one and halted Federer’s bid into an additional Grand Slam title. Soderling broke Federer’s record in winning 23 consecutive semifinals event. Soderling won over Federer by 3-6, 6-3, 7-5, 6-4.
Initially, Federer seemed to have gained control and would have his way past Soderling again. He hit 16 winners and only had 3 unforced errors.
However, Soderling was the dominant one in the second set. Soderling pushed for an early 3-0 lead. Soderling’s advantage remained until the conclusion of the match.
While Soderling’s win over Federer is a big upset, it was still Nadal’s defeat which served as his career best. Nadal was previously undefeated on clay courts until Soderling was matched with him.
Over the last few years, it had always been Nadal who defeated Federer in the finals. Back in 2009, the finals seemed as if it would be another Nadal-Federer match up only to have Soderling defeat the best player on clay courts.
Soderling impressively defeated Nadal in four sets. The match was comparable to the one he recently had with Federer. Robin Soderling is set to play against Tomas Berdych in the semifinals of the Roland Garros.
Considerably, analysts note that Soderling’s performance and impressive play can in fact qualify him in the finals. His performance against Federer greatly affected the prediction. Federer is set to face other opponents in the quarterfinal round.
Söderling’s tennis play has been characterized as brutal. He is best recognized for his competitive drive along with his dominant game. He is capable of hitting precise ground strokes. His serves are also heavy and extremely accurate.
Soderling also has a commendable return game. He has a reliable and solid backhand whereas his forehand is considered as one of the best in the tournament.
Soderling is extremely reliable on hard courts though his best results have been on clay courts (French Open). He is up against Tomas Berdych who pushed his ways into the semifinals after a compelling win against Mikhail Youzhny of Russia, 6-3, 6-1, 6-2.
Standing at 6 feet 5 one, 15th-seeded Berdych is easily considered as among the tallest participants in the Roland Garros. Berdych’s playing style mimics that of a predator. He usually pushes his opponent from one side to another until he forces a mishit shot.
He also defeated Andy Murray in the initial rounds of the French Open. Berdych refuses to dwell on the odds of his victory over Soderling and instead his banking on his play to get him to pass through the round.
This match is an affair of power hitters and crosscourt experts. Berdych has been on a roll, so is Soderling who recently pummeled Roger Federer in a dominating four-set match. The game should be a toss-up coin and would probably ends in the deciding set.
Bold prediction: Soderling wins the match in fifth set. The 2009 French Open finalist is hungry for an elusive Grand Slam title. Through Berdych could give him a tough call, Soderling looks primed for a duel with Nadal in the finals.
