Robin Van Persie ‘Never stopped believing in Arsenal’
The talented Gunner forward, Robin Van Persie has claimed he has 'never stopped believing in Arsenal' despite the five-year trophy drought at the Emirates. The Dutch striker said he is confident that the wait to land silverware at Arsenal will finally be over this season.
Arsenal superstar, Robin Van Persie has made a comeback to Arsenal's set-up after being given extra rest after the Netherlands reached the FIFA World Cup 2010 Final. But the Arsenal hit man was not able to put on an impressive show. May be he was not completely fit. Robin Van Persie left the pitch after 30 minutes in the second game of this season. In addition to that it is now believed that Arsenal’s only attacking option and their talisman will be sidelined until October.
Trophy less seasons at the Arsenal didn’t have any impact on the Dutch striker Robin Van Persie. Half a decade without adding any silverware to the club’s trophy cabinet, there were rumours that Arsenal superstar Robin Van Persie would be leaving Emirates for a possible move to any other European Club. There were too many uncertainties about the Dutchman’s future.
The 27-year old striker’s glorious career is full of ups and down. Before making a move to the London Side in 2004 from the Dutch side Feyenoord, the talented forward won UEFA Cup with the Dutch Club. Although Persie’s career is not full of awards and laurels still he managed to win few awards. Robin Van Persie was part of the Arsenal team when they won the FA Community Shield of 2004. In addition to that Robin Van Persie was also the part of the Gunner’s FA CUP winning campaign in the season 2005-2006.
FA Cup was the last trophy which Van Persie and even all the members of Arsenal family saw at the club. After 2005, Arsenal failed to win any competition. Up till now Arsenal has won 13 English First League titles. The London club saw the most successful era when the ‘Invincibles’ were born. It was the season of from 2000 to 2004 when Gunners went on an unbeaten streak of forty-four matches. Later that streak was ended by Manchester United.
However, after the glorious season at the Emirates, the Gunners didn’t win a single competition. Now, the young Arsenal striker is optimistic that this season his team will be able to win either the English Premier League or Champions League
Recently, speaking to Arsenal’s official website, Robn Van Persie sounded more optimistic about winning the Champions League and English Premier League.
The Arsenal superstar said, "I have never stopped believing in Arsenal”. The Dutch forward also commented that this is his seventh season with Arsenal. He loves this club as Arsenal is responsible for developing him into the one of the best strikers of the present era. In addition to that he showed his loyalty to the club and wanted to repay Arsenal fans and everyone by winning silverware for them.
Moreover, Robin Van Persie admired Arsenal’s extraordinary way of playing football. There are only two teams in the world, who play such football, Arsenal and Barcelona. Robin Van Persie was one of the players that enjoyed the total football concept implied by Arsene Wenger for the last two seasons. He was very optimistic about Arsenal’s way of playing football.
The ex-Feyenoord player also commented about the dream number, which he always wanted to play. The Dutch midfielder inherited his dream number 10 shirt when William Gallas’ left Arsenal for their arch rival Tottenhum Hotspurs. There is a huge heritage of number 10 shirt in Arsenal history books. Arsenal’s legendary striker, Dennis Bergkamp, used to wear this shirt. Robin Van Persie is considered the successor of Dennis Bergkamp and he is expected to thrill the crowd with his performance just like Dennis Bergkamp.
