The Dutchman reveals that he hoped that he would play as the secondary striker but he adapted to his new role quickly after http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Emmanuel-Adebayor-c12526 left for Manchester City from Arsenal in the English Premier League...
After watching http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429 on his own. However the Arsenal captain has revealed that he did not
expect that he would ever be played as the solitary main striker for the Gunners during his time at the club.
Van Persie arrived at Arsenal at a time when http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Barcelona-c38604 but rather than thrusting responsibility upon Van Persie, Arsene Wenger
played him as the secondary striker with Adebayor as the main front man for the Gunners.
Subsequently with Adebayor’s departure, Van Persie was thrown at the deep end but the Dutchman has adapted prolifically to a role that was alien to him once. There is talk that the Dutchman might move away from Arsenal to greener
pastures such as Barcelona or Real Madrid in the summer but that remains to be seen.
Van Persie said in his latest interview, "I was hoping to play as a second striker. I never thought I would end up as a main striker. We only tried it when Adebayor went. The boss didn’t buy anyone else. He was convinced I could
do it but I wasn’t."
He added, "In my first five or six games I was making assists but I didn’t score and I thought, 'I am a main striker now, I need to score'. When I scored my first goal I then scored seven in seven, with seven assists."
Arsene Wenger’s team are third in the Premier League at the moment but with Tottenham on their heels, the Gunners need to make a strong finish to their season in order to attract big names in the summer and also play in the UEFA
Champions League next season.
