Arsenal captain and Dutch international Robin Van Persie has gone ahead and expressed his delight for helping the Gunners pick up all three points against Sunderland.
The striker was back to his best this past weekend, as he went on to score a brilliant brace, which helped Arsenal overcome Sunderland by two goals to one.
The forward scored the first goal of the game within the opening thirty second of play and seemed to set the mood for the night. However, a http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Sebastian-Larsson-c32733 free kick went on to cancel out the strikers goal, as both teams went into the half time break with
one goal apiece.
In the second half, the Gunners attacked the Sunderland goal for the most part and in the eighty third minute, they had a free kick awarded to them in a very dangerous area. Van Persie stepped up to take the resulting spot kick and curled in a world class
goal, which helped the Gunners pick up the win.
Following the game, the forward talked about the importance of picking up the three points as he went on to state:  “Yes, a much needed one. We started really well, the first 20-25 minutes were really good, then we dropped a little bit.”
"After that we let them come back into the game, we suffered a bit from there, be to be fair, great performance, great character because we’ve been there before in the last few minutes, 2-1 score.”
The striker then went on to talk about the first goal of the game, as he mentioned it was all in the build up play and his first touch which made the goal possible.
“It was my first touch as well” he continued, "it was a really good pass from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Gervinho-c14755 and I shot it and it went in quite nice, but I didn’t know it was the quickest one ever though.”
Despite being shown a yellow card for his post goal celebrations after the free kick. The forward believes that it was a card that he would gladly pick again, if it came at the same price.
Van Persie revealed that it had been a while since he scored from a direct free kick and hence the celebration was pretty justified.
“Yes [it was worth the booking], very much. I just felt confident and it was [in] my favourite position and it’s been a while, so I have to be critic, I have to look at myself on this because I’ve missed many in the past couple of months, so it was about
time.”
