Robin van Persie pleased to make Holland return
Holland striker Robin van Persie says that he is over the moon to have made a return to playing for the national team after making a comeback from an ankle injury.
Van Persie played for the whole of the second half after he came off the bench in Holland's 1-0 victory over Turkey in an international friendly on Wednesday 17 November at the Amsterdam Arena.
The Arsenal frontman had not played for Bert van Marwijk's side since the 2010 FIFA World Cup final, which they lost 1-0 to Spain after extra time, and was delighted to play a part in the win over Turkey, which came as a result of Klaas-Jan Huntelaar's goal
in the 52nd minute.
Van Persie told Dutch television channel SBS 6 that: “It's a great feeling to be back for Oranje. My last match was the World Cup final defeat against Spain. I only just returned to match fitness after a lengthy injury lay-off and I don't really care in what
position I played today. I just wanted to get playing time again.
"This is a good situation for everyone. I'm glad to be back, it's good for Arsenal that I've gained some match rhythm, while it's also a good thing for Oranje that I'm back. I was really disappointed after the lost World Cup final and I struggled a bit at Arsenal
after the defeat to Spain. I was just starting to feel better again when I sustained the injury. That was a huge blow for me. It's therefore great to be back again."
The 27-year-old hitman had missed several UEFA 2012 European Football Championship qualifying matches — against San Marino Finland, Moldova and Sweden — with Holland after injuring his ankle in Arsenal's 2-1 victory over Blackburn Rovers in the English Premier
League on 28 August.
