Robinho admits that his future is unclear
Manchester City’s striker, Robinho will not be allowed to stay at the Brazilian team, Santos, for another season. This came as a direct result of Manchester City refusing to allow his loan spell to be extended at Santos.
City however told the Brazilian team that they could buy the player off them if they wished to keep him for that long. The offer they presented to the club was that they would let go of the Brazilian player if they were offered thirty two and a half million pounds for him. Santos clearly are a team that do not posses the funds to sign a player, since most of their players are homegrowns.
Robinho played his last game of his loan spell for Santos in the first leg of the Brazilian cup final. The match ended with Santos winning by two goals to nil. Robinho didn’t score any goals during the game but was constantly carrying the team forward. He even received a standing ovation from both the teams fans when the match concluded. Robinho was reported to have been touched by this display of affection by the Santos fans.
Robinho is quoted to have said, "This display of affection from the fans really touches me because this is my home,""I hope I can stay but it depends on Manchester City. I hope this is not my last game here but, for now, what I have been told is that they [the negotiations] are at a standstill and I have to go back to Manchester."
The Santos president, Luis Alvaro de Oliveria Ribeiro told the fans that he was currently trying to work out a deal with City, to retain the prolific striker at the club but it would eventually all depend on City and what they want in the future. He was quoted to have said, "We are negotiating and we are hopeful, but Manchester City have made it clear to us they are not going to loan him again and that they just want to sell him. We can try a new loan in January. I think it would be easier then."
Robinho’s agent, Evandro de Souza said that he wasn’t very hopeful or optimistic about his client staying or returning to Santos in the near future. He added that this was more than likely to be Robinho’s last game at Santos.
Robinho fell out of favour at City with the manager, Roberto Mancini last season and was sent to Santos so the player didn’t go to waste. The Italian manager however has now admitted that he has no problems with the player and would like to add him to the star studded squad that City currently posses. He is quoted to have said, "The situation is that Robinho will finish his contract with Santos,""He will stay in Brazil for another week, play for the national team and, after that, he will return to Manchester City.""At this moment, no [I don't have any issues with Robinho]. But it depends on him."
If Robinho manages to settle into the City squad then they will definitely become the team to beat this coming season. The English teams are probably well aware of this fact and are probably going to dread having to play against City this coming season.
