Robinho criticises Manchester City
Former Manchester City striker Robinho, just like any other former player, has launched a criticism drive, soon after making the switch to AC Milan. Robinho was ecstatic to have finally made a move away from Eastlands where his game will now be his prime focus.
The Brazilian striker had long been looking for a move out of Manchester City. He was finally signed by Italian giants AC Milan for 18 million pounds. The samba boy claimed it was like going to office rather than playing football at Manchester City.
Robinho was signed by Manchester City from Real Madrid for 32.5 million pounds. He did have a bright start to his Manchester City career where he scored a hat-trick as well. However, as they say, the only thing permanent is change. Problems with Manchester City manager started to surface and he was later loaned out to Santos when Mancini took over the club.
The former City player said that both Mark Hughes and Mancini did not understand him. He said that both of them were only concerned with the sporting side of the game and never tried to understand the minds of the player. Robinho added that this sort of management was not enough for him and that is why he never felt comfortable at the club.
Robinho said that there was no contact between City’s management and the players at a personal level. Robinho claimed that being a Brazilian, he just could not perform to the best of his ability in such a situation. The striker went on to say that he admits that he is not like every other footballer and probably needs to be looked after more than others. But still, experts believe that if he was unhappy with Manchester City and its manager, Robinho would never have been able to play at his best. Robinho said that when he was at Real Madrid, he had to deal with the same problems, which was why he signed with City in the first place.
The Brazilian forward claimed that Manchester City had lost confidence in him as he was not able to win a place in the starting line. He added that he was very pleased that a loan deal with Santos was inked. Otherwise, his chances of playing the World Cup in South Africa would have been in jeopardy.
Robinho said that when Mark Hughes left the club, he was hoping that things would get better when Mancini took over. Sadly for him, nothing changed and the same problems started to arise when the Italian took over.
The 26-year-old said that his time with Santos was very successful, which was the same place where he first fell in love with football. He won the domestic title with Santos and that also assured him a place in the World Cup squad for Brazil.
Robinho said that he was enjoying his game at Santos and wanted to stay at the club for longer. Even Santos wanted to extend his stay but Manchester City did not allow it.
He said that when he signed for City, the management had said that in 2 year’s time, they would be better than Manchester United. But according to Robinho, more time had passed and nothing changed.
Robinho also commented on Manchester’s weather in general. He believed that it was definitely a great place to play football but not the best to live in. The Brazilian claimed that the winter was quite severe in England. With the addition of constant rain and overcast skies, it did become quite depressing, opined the footballer.
Robinho claimed that being a Brazilian, he is used to having the sun at his back, and too much rain and dark clouds used to dampen his mood.
