Robinho joins AC Milan
AC Milan have pulled off one of the biggest transfer deadline day signings after securing the services of Robson de Souza (‘Robinho)’ from Manchester City.
A statement on the Serie A giants’ official website said that: "AC Milan communicates it has acquired the player Robinho, outright from Manchester City. The Brazilian has signed a contract with the Rossoneri club for four years."
Robinho was quoted by Sky as saying that: “I am a Milan player.” The 26-year-old has passed a medical exam and will reportedly cost Milan around 15 million euros, though the fee was unconfirmed by either club.
Strong in attack
The Brazil striker will link up with his compatriot Ronaldinho, fellow new arrival Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Alexandre Pato in the Milan attack as the club aim to win their first league title in seven years.
Robinho started his career with Santos and won two Brazilian championships with the club, scoring 60 goals in 142 matches, before moving to Real Madrid in 2005 for a fee of 24 million euros. In Spain, the striker his the back of the net 35 times in 132 games across all competitions as he helped the La Liga giants pick up league championships in 2006-07 and 2007-08.
He signed for City in a deal worth 42.5 million euros on transfer deadline day two years ago and scored 15 times in his first season in England. After the arrivals of Carlos Tevez, Emmanuel Adebayor and Roque Santa Cruz last summer, Robinho found his playing time at City limited and was sent out on loan back to his former club Santos in January for six months.
Robinho has also played for Brazil 80 times since making his debut in July 2003. He has won the Copa America in 2007 as well as the FIFA Confederations Cup twice, in 2005 and 2009 with his country. He was also part of the Brazil squad for the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
