Robinson Cano sparks as New York Yankees defeat Los Angeles Angels 6-5 - MLB Update
New York Yankees’ second baseman, Robinson Cano had a tremendous day with the bat as he hit four RBIs and went 3-for-4 with an average of .303 in the Yankees’ 6-5 win against Los Angeles Angels at Yankee Stadium, New York on August 11.
First four innings remained empty for both sides as batters struggled to hit scoring shots while pitchers tossed the ball in perfect line. During second inning, Torii Hunter singled off right-field but Mark Trumbo popped out to short-stop position, Vernon
Wells fouled out to first base and Bobby Wilson grounded out to short-stop.
Similarly, Yankees also looked powerless in second inning as Cano drove a single-run shot towards right-field but Mark Teixeira struck-out looking, Nick Swisher grounded out to first base and Eduardo Nunez fouled out towards first base without adding even
a single run.
Yankees missed some scoring runs during fourth inning when Cano singled off left-field but Teixeira flied out to left-field, Swisher flied out to centre-field and at the short-stop position Endy Chavez grounded out. Angels got off the mark in fifth inning
by posting two runs on the score-board and took a 2-0 lead.
Alberto Callaspo struck a two-run homer (386 feet) towards right-field and Erick Aybar posted a single run. On the other side, Yankees tied the game 2-2 by scoring couple of runs at the bottom of the sixth inning. Curtis Granderson hit a solo homer (368
feet) to right-field and Derek Jeter scored a tie run for Yankees.
In seventh inning, Yankees extended their lead 6-2 by exploding four runs. Cano struck a home-run (381 feet) to right-field while Jeter, Teixeira and Russell Martin each completed their individual one run to end the four-run seventh inning. The pitchers
did not present any run during the eighth inning.
Yankees’ starter, Bartolo Colon pitched six innings and surrendered five hits, two runs, two walks, one home-run and two earned runs with an ERA of 3.31. He was able to strike-out just three batters on his 90 pitches. Angels smashed three runs in the ninth
inning to cut their deficit 6-5.
Russell Branyan hit a three-run homer (377 feet) to right-field while Maicer Izturis and Peter Bourjos both added two runs jointly. After winning a series finale, Yankees confirmed a 2-1 victory in the three-game series played at Yankee Stadium.
