Robinson and father Jose Cano meet in Chinese Taipei to earn donation for charity – MLB News
It was a happy moment for Robinson Cano to meet his father Jose Cano in the practice session in Taiwan, where Major League Baseball’s All-Star team led by the New York Yankees’ starter Robinson Cano and Curtis Granderson arrived just 24 hours ago for a five-game
series against the local team.
Robinson and his father Jose, who had met in the Home Run Derby earlier this year, were to earn some money for a charity. The senior Cano tossed fifteen pitches and junior Cano launched four of them out of the park. The idea was to earn a donation for the
charity on each home-run.
Junior Cano, who has just appointed for a 2012 option by the Yankees, was for the first time in the New Taipei City, but it was a routine matter for Jose Cano, who has played for two Taiwanese teams in the 1990s.
At that time, the condition of the Xinzhuang Stadium was not as good as it is today, stated Jose, who has also pitched for the Houston Astros in 1989. During my stay with Uni-President Lions and Wei Chuan Dragons, the parks were without clubhouses, showers
and the field was artificial turf, added Jose.
However, the hospitality of the people was more valuable than all these things, commented Jose Cano.
"I remember a lot of places," Jose Cano said. "A lot of people were very nice to me."
The Taiwanese also welcomed the arrival of the MLB starter Robinson Cano, who was jubilant to meet his father and receive surprising support from the spectators.
"I've been really impressed by the fans here," said Cano. "I'd like to come back here more often. I was a baseball fan growing up, I used to hear about baseball all the time from my dad, and he was here.”
The Major League All-Star team, which landed in Taipei on Monday, will face the local club in a five-game series that begins in Xinzhuang on Tuesday. Game 2 and 3 will take place at Intercontinental Stadium in Taichung while Game 4 and 5 will be at Chengcing
Lake Stadium in Kaohsiung. All games will be played in consecutive days without any rest.
The MLB squad also include, Curtis Granderson, Pablo Sandoval, Jeff Mathis, Erick Aybar, Ryan Roberts, Danny Valencia, Logan Morrison, Ross Detwiler, Jeremy Guthrie and many others.
