Robo hamster question...

We have four 5 week old baby robo hamsters. This weekend we are going to try to s*x them so we can seperate them so they won't have babies. I've been worried about one thing though for awhile. Since there's 4 i doubt will get so lucky as to have all girls or all boys or 2 girls and 2 boys. So, my concern is what if there's like 1 girl and 3 boys, or 1 boy and 3 girls? Then that one would be alone :( What should we do in that case? I know they're social and need company, so should we try to introduce a new one? Or keep one of the other s*x with it and just let them have babies? Or just keep it alone?

Please help, we want to know what to do if that is the case!

If it was me I would try to introduce a new one. All that trouble to go through so he/she isnt lonely and then new babies on top of it. I would just get him/her a friend from somewhere.

Actually, robos do fine alone. They just need a bunch of toys, food/water, and love. My robo lives alone and he is very happy. If you really do want your hamster to have a friend, be sure to put the new hamster in first; 30-1hour, so he can get used to the enviorment. Then, put your original hamster in but watch them closely in case they fight. The smells of each hamster to each other are important. Some hamsters can tolerate being with another, and others are just more stubborn. Good luck!

Any hamster is very happy living alone. It is only that dwarf hamsters can get along as group compared to syrians but this is not a necessity. Dwarf hamsters in the wild are as solitary as syrians. So if you have one boy hamster, he can be perfectly alone and happy. However if you have one girl hamster, why not put her with the mom itself so that you can save on one cage extra instead of keeping her separately.

However, never keep a boy and girl together since as you know, they can mate and a pregnancy is not healthy for a small female hamster who is not yet 3 months old. The percentage of girl hamsters before 2 months of age who die during delivering a litter is very very high,so refrain from putting them together.
