Question:

Roborovski mom hiding her babies?

My roborovski had babies about a week ago. But I can't find them. There are a few piles around the cage that she could've hid them in, and I sometimes peek in there and see her come up from under the bedding. She's still drinking a lot of water (to produce milk I'm assuming.) Do you think she ate them, or just hid them?

  1. What I think you should do is check for yourself. Put the mom hamster in a hamster ball or something then let her roll into another room. Then move the bedding with something and check. That's what I used to do and now i have 3 healthy 2 month year old hamsters and their parents. But you would have to hurry cause the mother hamster will know that you probably are looking for the pups and would come rolling back. Make sure you put the bedding back on the pups if you find them. If not then sorry to hear that the pups past away.

  2. u need to check get a stick or somin like that and poke around the sawdust GENTLY and c if u can find them if not then she may have eaten them sorry hope u find them good luck

  3. You really need to back off on intruding into her space right now, she's being a protective mom and she is nervous right now.  Give her some extra time without bothering her and she will come around soon enough to show off her babies.

  4. hid them

  5. she probably is hiding them, moms can sometimes be very protective of their babies. but as they get older u'll see them

  6. my hamster did that once. i saw there were no babies in the cage so i dug up the bedding and found them. i didn't cover up the bedding after that nor did she.

  7. Depending on the age of the babies, she's probably hiding them. Take a look around the cage, gently pushing away the bedding.

She is probably hiding them from "Predators" because she wants them kept safe. Its like when my hamster kept bundling her babies back into the nest when they came out while they were still young!

  8. she probably hid them somewhere in the bedding

  9. She's probably just hiding them. Being super small and all, they have to live!!!!! If she did eat them, she'd stop hiding under the bedding at one point. i hope she didn't eat them :). If she did, that wouldn't be too good, although you should realize the answer sooner of later!

Good luck! I hope this helps!

  10. She probably hid them. I don't think dwarf hamsters are as cannabalistic as Syrians. Make sure she has plenty of water and food. and if you don't see them with in another week and a half than I would start wondering.

  11. hamster mothers hide their babies for protection

hamster mothers eat their children if a human touches them

she is drinking more water for milk

if i were you i would not touch the babies at all just let her take care of it

  12. Have a look.

Only way you will find out.

  13. All hamster mothers try to hide their babies because it's their nature.  Don't worry, the babies will start making their way from the nest as they grow older, so don't worry!!

P.S. I love hamster and you could join my Y! Group, The Hamster Wheel.  I would love to see pictures of your hamster and the babies when you find them!!
