Robredo Playing Well at Swedish Open
Tommy Robredo is emerging as one of the favourites to win the Swedish Open after racing into the second round.
Robredo has had to endure a mixed career that has seen him play in a combination of smaller and larger events. He is one of the top seeds at the Swedish Open and he looks as though he can power his way to the title.
The problem for the player has been consistency, which has held him back over recent years. This has stopped him from being successful on some of the more mainstream tournaments in professional tennis.
However, he looks good in Sweden and there are many elements of his game that he is displaying which will probably now make him favourite to win the event. However, some have questioned the decision to take part in the clay court event with the hard court events just around the corner.
His Game
Robredo has a very good serve and volley game. This allows him to race into the net and win a lot of easy points. His serving accuracy is good and quite often forces his opponent into a weak return that he can slam down to win the point.
The clay surface suits his game now more than it ever has done. This is because Robredo cannot rely on the power that he once was possessed and the ball does move a lot slower on the clay. He can rely on the accuracy of his groundstrokes in order to move his opponents all over the court and tire them out.
He is one of the more experienced players playing at the Swedish Open. He has played in a lot of professional tournaments on different surfaces. This gives him an edge over the younger players he plays who are trying to win ranking points and qualify for bigger tournaments.
Quality of Players
It's important to consider the quality of players that Robredo is playing against before reading too much into his impressive form at the tournament. All of the best players in the world are preparing for the hard court season and have not taken a step back to play on clay.
This is not to suggest that there is a lack of respect for the tournament but the point is that it naturally makes Robredo's job easier if he does not have to play against better opponents all of the time.
He can use this to his advantage because it will allow him to possibly go on and win this event. This will give him form, confidence and belief in his own ability that he can play on the hard courts and do very well. This should improve his consistency and it should mean he wins more of the smaller events and can then qualify for the Grand Slams.
Betting Advice
Robredo looks a very good bet to win the Swedish Open. He looks one of the best players at the event by a mile and he will be determined to make sure that his good run of form does not end any time soon. If you fancy him to win it then have a little punt but don't accept it as an absolute eventuality.
Betting in play is a much better option when he comes up against a higher seeded or higher ranked opponent. This will let you see if he can rise to the occasion like he did in his younger days or whether he's just going to be confined to mediocre performances in low key events from now on.
