Rocchi delighted with Lazio’s first Europa League win and eyeing qualification: Europa League news
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Tommaso-Rocchi-c35374, is relieved after helping his side to their first win of the 2011/12 UEFA Europa League.
The Biancazzurri limped to a 1-0 win over F.C Zurich at the Stadio Olimpico Rome on Thursday, November 3rd, 2011. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Cristian-Brocchi-c9510 scored the winner to help his side in claiming their first win of the campaign.
Rocchi admitted his delight after the win and knows the importance of the victory. The veteran striker revealed that his team was expecting a tough test against the Swiss side, as they held them to a 1-1 draw in the previous game.
He praised the opponents and believes that they are a great defensive unit.
While talking to the reporters, Rocchi said, “We really needed this win. We knew it wasn’t going to be an easy game, as Zurich play well, are very organised and know how to defend. The second half went better, as we were more aggressive
and pushed the centre of the team further up the field, so in the end we managed to score with Cristian Brocchi.”
The former Empoli star admitted that his team was held in the first half but the change in tactics really helped them and they managed to score a goal. The 34-year-old is confident of his team’s chances of qualifying for the next
round and believes that they will have to play out of their skins to ensure a place in the last 32 round.
“It is pleasing to have won this game and brought home the three points, but we know there are another two games to go and qualification is wide open. We need more points.” added the Biancazzurri skipper
The win takes Edy Reja’s men out of the bottom zone and places them third in the Group D table. In other match of the group, leaders, Sporting Lisbon, suffered a shock 1-0 defeat at the hands of F.C Vaslui.
The Biancocelesti will take on the Romanian outfit, Vaslui, in their next game of the competition on Thursday, December 1st, 2011. After this game, they will host Sporting Lisbon in the final group game on December 14th,
2011.
