Rochelle Gilmore to make her comeback appearance at the Jayco Bay Cycling Classic 2012
Three-time former winner of the Jayco Bay Cycling Classic, Rochelle Gilmore, has confirmed her return for the coming edition of the race. She will ride with BikeExchange Dream Team for the season ahead.
The 30-year-old won the previous two editions of the race and a victory in 2012 will make it three in a row and four over all victories at the tour.
Currently Anna Wilson is the most successful rider of the race throughout its history, she won the race in 1996, 1998 and 1999.
It is believed that Gilmore can take the honour from Anna if she manages to win the 2012 event of the race.
The cyclist injured herself after a horrible crash but the Australian race will serve as her comeback event.
She briefed, "I am pleased to have been back on the bike for just over three weeks without any pain, injuries, illnesses or setbacks. It was a strong, solid and progressive three week training block".
While commenting on her injuries after the crash, Rochelle cited that she did not truly understand the intensity of the crash initially. However, she is optimistic about her form and is hopeful for a positive start at the Australian race.
Rochelle stated, "My preparation is structured around the European season starting on the 1st of February so I might not be at my best for the 1st of January but the motivation stimulated by our team environment, the racing and competition will nearly always
bring the best out of me".
Gilmore will be accompanied by the former world and Olympic champion Nicole Cooke, the duo will represent BikeExchange Dream Team for the coming season.
Meanwhile, Team Green Edge-AIS has announced its full squad for the race. Five cyclists to represent the Australian squad are: Melissa Hoskins, Jessie MacLean, Shara Gillow, Amanda Spratt and Tiffany Cromwell.
A full Australian squad is selected by the Australian team for the four-day race, starting on January 1st, 2012.
The fascinating Ritchie Boulevard hot-dog circuit is chosen as the starting point of the race.
Cyclists will move to Eastern Gardens on the second day whereas day three will take the race to a ‘new direction’ in Portarlington.
Williamstown will conclude the race on January 4th with the announcement of the 2012 winner of the series.
