Rock bottom and relegated to Segunda Division – Almeria brace themselves for the future
The rocky http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Beaches-c38612 of La Liga were never homely for the Andalusian club. UD Almeria came to the Spanish top-flight in the 2007/08 season and it had been their home for the last 4 years. Inability to attract bright talents to the playing field, coupled with
constant changes to the backroom, meant the club would not be competing with the best for long.
The 2010/11 La Liga season was the culminating point of their relationship with league as they now return to the Segunda Division. Failure to forge a winning combination and inconsistencies in the club’s operations lead to the demotion.
In a league that prides itself for flair-studded attacking football, Almeria managed to do all but this, scoring a measly, that too barely, 36 goals in the entire campaign. Interesting fact we have at hand. Almeria scored lesser goals than http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Cristiano-Ronaldo-c9629,
who broke league records in a 40-goal La Liga Campaign. Ironically, the Portuguese international got the bragging rights in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Real-c30728 Madrid’s last game of the season against UD Almeria.
The club had been dodging relegation for the last three seasons, finishing in the mid-table. Young starlets would be drafted in on loan, and things seemed well. But with the club changing head-coaches like towels, attraction towards the club diminished.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Skills-c40539, the player scored 13 goals in his first season with the club and 19 the next.
During his stay, he finished as the top scorer for the club, taking the team to their highest position in the club’s history, a very respectable 8th position in the 2007/08.
With the dressing room in turmoil, the club suffered a lot. The club have their biggest start in Modeste M’bami. The veteran holding midfielder joined the Andalusian club in 2009 and has shouldered all responsibility ever since, helping the club’s cause
by being the link between the midfield and the defence. The club’s resolve to hold on to the Cameroonian will be tested as suitors line-up for his signature.
Ever since Negredo’s loan move ended, the club have been looking for a number 9 and could not attract any of desired quality. The club lacked a genuine striker in the entire campaign as coaches came and went. Jose Leonardo Ullao is the only recognized striker
and he flatters himself for being at the Andalusian club.
The midfield is respectable and the likes of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Defence-c38904 has to be blamed for it. The young and defensive makeup of the squad was unable to cope
up with the pressures of the league. The club were unable to form a centre-back pairing for the season as experienced members of the squad remained injured.
Furthermore, goalkeeping has remained a troubled position for the club as well. There is no player of quality to stake his name in the starting eleven and only Esteban Andres Suarez’s name comes up. The shot-stopper has played in only 14 games since joining
from Almeria, and is unreliable to say the least.
The team has major areas to fix if they want a return to La Liga. From acquiring the services of a reliable striker to maturing the young defenders in the roster, there is plenty of room for improvement. This remains highly unlikely as long as a manager
is not brought in for the long haul.
