Rock ’n Sole Half Marathon emulates a poor management – Athletics news
As the well acknowledged Rock ’n Sole Half Marathon of this season commenced, spectators as well as runners observed sheer mismanagement in the conduct of the entire event. Fans and professional athletes, who were happy with the fact that a professional
sports authority had made efforts to restore a healthy activity in Milwaukee, were disappointed by the fact that with such a poor level of commitment, sustenance of the event and its emergence as a quality meet on the world athletics arena will become difficult.
The worst part of the race, of course, was observed when it was realised that there was not any drinking water arrangement for over five thousand runners in the event. While evaluating the arrangements made at the track, it emerged that most of the voluntarily
run races organised in the past were far better than this race, which was arranged by a professional group. Despite of having two prestigious institutions like Summerfest and Team Sports Inc as the main organisers, the meet was neither a quality nor a safe
run.
The main reasons why the organising body of the event should be held responsible and accountable for this act of negligence on their part, are that despite charging some heft entry fees from the runners along with some luring sponsorships from top business
groups, the race proved to be a complete failure as far as the provision of facilities to the athletes were concerned.
The organisers of the event were not responsible for an eventual hot day, but they could have planned and prepared for avoiding heat related injuries. The level of negligence could be judged from the fact that as soon as the race kicked-off, over 6500 people
ran out of drinking water as there was not even a drop of it by the half miles of the race.
According to some of the independent observers that have also been organising running events on a voluntary basis, the organisers of a marathon has an intention to raise money for charity purposes or to simply hold a health activity. Despite the motives,
no one disregards the importance of provision of basic facilities to runners, as well as spectators as it had been seen at the Rock ’n Sole Half Marathon.
