Is it just me or is all the good modern, heavy, and alternative rock stations just fading away? Im my town we lost our only decent rock station for a random list of songs with no DJ.

Is rock being taken over by rap?

  1. Rock will never die. Where I live, we have a all around rock station and a classic rock station. As long as we True Rockers stay alive, it will never disapear.

  2. One of the issues has been that the same people who love hard rock music tended to be the same people who never filled out arbitron radio ratings books (which were paper diaries asking you to log what you listened to) saying what stations they listened to (these books are some of the equation in what radio owners decide are the formats they want to put on their stations as the format has to bring them in profit). Meaning that newer rock showed to be a dying format compared to other formats...

However with personal people meters (a new device that takes the place of the paper diaries and is a electronic monitor worn like a beeper which senses what you are listening to even if in say a doctors office where you wouldn't normally know what is on) which doesn't need any actual writing or noting by the people being sampled, it has been found that Rock music is actually a still very listened to format in the US.

However in some areas, the median age (average age) is older and stations in that locale may decide to go after the bigger older population with the variety hits format (which is apparently on it's way out slowly as fad of the year for apparently AAA (or Adult Album Alternative) format (with at least 3 major city stations flipping to it in major markets (NYC,LA, and Nashville among other locals that have had this format already like Denver) in the last two months)

Rap I find has pretty leveled out as of late as there is no innovation in the gendre as of late. We had gansta, west coast, east coast, and then Dirty south but in the past 5 or so years, no new and real hot movement to make it fresh and new again in Rap music IMO

  3. no, we have 3 stations for it. one even has mandatory metallica every night at 10! it makes me happy, i love metallica

  4. its true.  you would think in Orlando we would have a bunch.  we only have ONE (WJRR).  and it sucks most of the time.  that's why i'm going to satellite this year.  i'm going to do it for xmas as a nice surprise for my husband.  if i can hold out that long.

  5. Taken over?  Never.  Are the people that run radio stations morons?  Absolutely.  The same thing happened back home.  Here, we have only one rock station left.  Nothing but country, gospel and rap on the airwaves now.  Radio is a dead technology anyway.
