Rock that looks like a tooth or fang?

I found a rock in the local creek that is cone shaped it looks like a large fang anyone know what this is

  1. it might be a fish tooth or a dog tooth.


  2. Without a picture I cannot be sure, but I bet you found a fossil of Horn Coral.  This is usually only one or two inches long and they do look like fangs..  You can tell by the flat end which should show some typical coral.  (See picture of horn coral below)

It's hard to say without knowing where you live.  It could be a marine fish or reptile if you are in an area once covered by the extensive ocean that covered much of the world a few million years ago.  More recently, there have been many Mammals with teeth like that, including bear and  prehistoric cats.  Your best bet would be to get a few pictures with a digital camera and send them to a few museums.  Don't forget to include a ruler in the pictures to show the scale.  Good luck!  You may have an important find!
