Houston Rockets waive off Sean Williams
According to sources close to the matter, the Houston Rockets waived off former Dallas Mavericks player Sean Williams on Monday. Williams’s current contract with the Rockets was worth $900,000 but he has been waived off because it was set to become guaranteed as of August 30th.
Williams was released by the Mavericks mid-way through the last season and ended up finishing the campaign with the Boston Celtics. During his stay in Boston, he played only three games, averaging 3.7 points and 4 rebounds. Contrary to his unsuccessful NBA tenure, Williams has fared off much better in the D-League while playing for the Texas Legends. In 27 games last season, he averaged 15.2 points and 8.9 rebounds.
It is still unclear what lies ahead for Williams and his career in NBA but according to several sources, Miami Heat are said to be interested in landing the big man.
However Miami have also been interested in Chris Andersen and Josh Harrellson, and as such Sean’s future looks shaky in the league.
Bob Weiss set to return to Atlanta Hawks as an assistant coach; Kenny Atkinson already hired
The Atlanta Hawks are a franchise looking to be successful under their new regime of Danny Ferry. The franchise has been looking for suitable assistant coaches for quite some time and on Tuesday; they confirmed the hiring of Kenny Atkinson on Larry Drew’s staff.
Atkinson had spent the last four seasons with the New York Knicks. Prior to his tenure with the Big Apple franchise, he worked as the director of player development with the Houston Rockets. However, Atkinson is not the only new face to join Atlanta’s ranks as according to latest reports; Bob Weiss is set to return to the organization as well.
Weiss will not only be taking on the assistant coaching position on Drew’s staff but will also fill in the role of a consultant. He has previous experience of working as the head coach with Atlanta from 1990-1993. Weiss’s other coaching experiences in NBA include tenures with the San Antonio Spurs, Los Angeles Clippers and Seattle Super SuperSonics.
