I am running two 12 inch rockford fosgate p3 subs powered by a Sony XM-D9001GTR. the amp cuts off and goes into protect mode when i raise the volume to about half! The amp dosent hit as hard as i thought it would it seems like there is no difference between the sony amp and the rockford 300 watt amp that i had just replaced. any help on how to adjust the sony amp to better push these subs would be appreiciated cause i know that the rockford p3 subs should pound ALOT harder than they are now thanks

  1. Your problem may be the ohm load of the subs.  If your  P3's are dual 4-ohm voice coil, and you wired the voice coils and the subs in parallel, then you're presenting a 1-ohm load to the amp.  That amplifier isn't stable at 1 ohm.  If you're still using the same wiring you used for the old amp, then you may need to upgrade your power and ground wiring too.

You may also want to check and make sure you have the subs wired in phase.  Disconnect one of the two subs.  Does the other sub sound louder?  If so, re-connect the sub, but reverse the (+) and (-) connections.

Ray Jay, that Sony amp is CEA-2006 compliant; if it says 900 watts at 2 ohms, then you can trust that power rating.  The problem is that it's not possible to combine two 4-ohm DVC subs for a 2-ohm load.  They can be wired for a 4-ohm load, which would probably be the best match for the amp.  However, why would you suggest trying to "bridge both the RF and Sony amps together"?  You can't combine two different amps for more power; you'll end up damaging one or both.

  2. i agree with ray sony amps  blow. those rockfords u got r gold but u gotta cough out some good money to push them just to reach the rms id reccomend a hifonics amp i meen u cant go wrong  or the jl amp but that is pricey ill giv u alink  if u wanna check it out this site is very trustable     i got my alpines from here  runn them at 2 ohms and they give u 650 wats per sub      GET RID OF THE SONY AMP cya

  3. It could be you've got too much of a load on the amp or you have the subs in the wrong box.

  4. those P3's run 500 rms each so 2000 max,,,the 300 RF cant even reach the rms of 1 sub let alone 2 thats y it clipped (a sub can blow an amp thats why they clip[self protection]) and SONY??? awww d**n,, they dont do what they say they can do, and a 900 watt sony amp pushs bout 450-550 rms,, so it i splitting its own rms Level between 1000 rms half the subs potential,,,U can try to bridge BOTH the RF and the Sony amps together to get more power OR get another amp that'll push 1000 rms and sell the others or if they are 4 channels use one for the highs,,,
