Rocks as placecards...

I would like use rocks from Lake Michigan as our placecards. We are having an outside wedding in Northern Michigan. They are smooth rocks that I would like to write the guests names and our wedding date. Has anyone done this and can recommend a pen? Did this placecard work out for you? Thanks

  1. You could paint the rocks the colors of your wedding and than just use a black sharpie...or you could use puffy paint...or just go to Michael's...but I do know that you can use sharpie markers...I have done this before...

    Good luck...great idea!

  2. What a great idea!  Go to a craft store and ask what kind of pen to use.

  3. I saw something like that in Martha Stewart Weddings magazine. I think they actually used rubber letter stamps and stamped the names on. I know you said you are going to write them, but I just thought I would add this FYI.

  4. I have never heard of this idea, but I think its a great one!!

If I were you I would just go to the nearest craft store and ask them!

I am sure they have speciale craft pens handy for that kind of Job!!

    Good luck & congrats!

  5. first I would like to say.... That is a wonderfaul and creative Idea! kudos!! I would go to an art supply store and pick up silver or gold calligraphy pens. they come in great colors and can write on just about anything. they will run you about $3 each. I would avoid sharpies!!!!

  6. I saw this done at a beach wedding recently - was perfect for the casual outdoorsiness of their reception! The bride used paint pens to write on the rocks, it seemed to work pretty well. I know you can buy paint pens in a variety of colors in any craft store, and in the craft section of stores like Walmart and Target.

  7. My friend did this for her fall wedding.  I didn't attend the wedding, but she said that it was really cheap to do, and it worked out really well.  I'm not sure about the exact brand of pen, but I'm pretty sure she used a paint pen/ marker.  Something like this.  http://www.dickblick.com/zz213/26/

  8. that is so cute.  i love that idea.  but if it was up to me again .  i would not have gotten marry

  9. I've never seen that done but it sounds beautiful.  I like the idea.

This is a little weird and random but this woman I used to work with painted on rocks to make them look like animals.  Weird hobby, I know, but I think that she used acrylic paint.  That might work with what you are doing too.

  10. My husband's ex-girlfriend used to make those & she used a paint pen.  I kept them because they were cute & I put them inside my turtle tanks & my fish tanks.  The water never affected them.  I just asked him & he says they are expensive & he thinks it's oil paint in the pen.  Here are a couple of websites for rock painting:
