Rockstar plans to punish Max Payne 3 cheaters – Video Games Update
Rockstar Games has come up with a clever new way to deal with cheaters in the multiplayer mode of Max Payne 3. If detected, cheaters will be added to the ‘Cheater’s Pool’ and won’t be able to play online with other players.
Max Payne was a third person action shooter developed by Remedy Entertainment and published by Rockstar games in 2001. Remedy sold the rights to the Max Payne Intellectual Property (IP) to Rockstar after the first game but stayed to develop the sequel titled
Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne which was also published by Rockstar.
Remedy however was working on Alan Wake for Microsoft so Rockstar took it upon themselves to create the final chapter of the trilogy. Max Payne 3 came out on May 18, 2012 and was met with mixed reviews from the fans and critics alike.
Some gamers loved the new direction Rockstar had taken the series in but others were dead against it and complained that it didn’t feel like a Max Payne game but more like Grand Theft Auto, which is also developed by Rockstar. The game got above average
reviews scoring 89 percent on Metacritic for the PC version.
The one thing that the majority of the gamers did agree on was that the online multiplayer of the game was rock solid and a breath of fresh air with the new bullet time mechanic incorporated into the online mode. However like every other multiplayer game,
Max Payne 3 was also plagued by cheaters. Rockstar had warned that if they didn’t stop Rockstar would take action soon and after the announcement today it seems that Rockstar has delivered as they have added quarantine for cheaters.
Rockstar gives cheaters a taste of their own medicine as being added to the ‘cheater pool’ means that a gamer that was caught cheating online will only be able to play against other detected cheaters. On the bright side this will level the playing field
as everyone is likely to be cheating in the ‘Cheater Pool’. It will be interesting to see the reaction of gamers as the developer has decided to finally do something about cheaters.
