Nayef’s three-year-old chestnut gelding shot into the new season on 18th April, 2012 in the Racing UK Handicap at the Beverley race course over a mile and two furlongs.
He ended second after Sparkling Portrait, who won the race by the margin of a neck with Tony Hamilton riding. Rocktherunway did not pace up right after leaving the fifth stall and became prominent when the last three furlongs were still in the way.
The three-year-old made sure that he did not let the race turn into an easy win and was thus not very generous with the margin. Concluding the race third in line was, Indepub.
The chestnut gelding out of mare, Femme Fatale, scored third and then second in the next two races that followed.
The under charge of Michael Dods won the T.S.G. Median Auction Maiden Stakes on 18th May, 2012 at Newcastle over a mile and two furlongs . The favourite winner was paired up with jockey, Lee Topliss. The duo took off from the third gate, and got dominant when there remained just last two furlongs to be raced over.
Qualifying as the runner-up of the race was, Gangsterbanksters, and resting the race behind him was, Pioneer Boy.
The J. Hanly, A. Stroud And T. Stewart bred then hawked on to the very next option that came his way. Rocktherunway won the Totepool Tradesman’s Derby (Handicap) on 2nd June, 2012 at Musselburgh over a mile and 4 ½ furlongs.
Riding with jockey, Lee Topliss, the three-year-old was joined by Moon Trip when nearing the concluding stages of the race and escaped defeat by just a short head’s difference.
His chances of striking a hat-trick evaporated with the sixteenth position in the King George V Stakes (Handicap) on 21st June, 2012 at the Ascot race course over a mile and four furlongs.
